Delgoda factory located in Kalawana, had been constructed in the mid 60’s and is probably the first factory built by the State, whereas the others had mainly been established during colonial times. Taking advantage of evenly distributed rainfall in the locality the factory had been strategically located to encourage surrounding villagers to improve their livelihood by engaging in the cultivate tea. The most attractive and premium grade amongst many types of black tea produced at Delgoda, is their Flowery Fannings Special, a mixture of black tea and heaps of evenly sized silver tips.
